Blood Tests
The majority of Blood Tests are performed by our Phlebotomists Suzie Hardiman and Ellie Hamilton.
We hold Phlebotomy Clinics on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at Moreton Surgery and Wednesdays at Blockley Surgery. These clinics are all morning clinics and by appointment.
Please note that patients requesting an INR (test for Warfarin levels) should obtain an appointment before 11.00 a.m. and that these tests are not carried out routinely on Fridays. This is to allow for transportation of the sample to Cheltenham Hospital and receive the result back that day.
If patients are given a Blood Test form this should be produced when attending the clinic.
As a general rule, children under twelve years of age should have Blood Tests taken by appointment with the Doctor.
All Blood Tests require the authorisation of the Doctor or Nurse looking after the patient’s ongoing illness, such as diabetes or hypertension. Patients cannot ask for Blood Tests routinely unless there is a clinical indication or it has been authorised by their Doctor.
Any patient who has had a problem with Blood sampling previously or may become faint or unless when these tests are carried out, should inform the staff at the time of the appointment so that we can take precautions to avoid this and, if need be, provide a couch for the blood sampling to take place on.
